Conservative MP Miriam Cates, known for her strong anti-trans stance, is currently under investigation by the parliamentary commissioner for standards.

The investigation, confirmed on the watchdog’s website, was opened on 14 December and revolves around allegations that Cates has undertook “Actions causing significant damage to the reputation of the House as a whole, or of its Members generally”, although specific details of the allegations are not yet public.

Miriam Cates, who has been the MP for Penistone and Stocksbridge since 2019, is a co-chair of the New Conservatives, a faction within the Tory party. She recently made headlines for her critique of Rishi Sunak’s Rwanda bill, arguing that it did not sufficiently disapply foreign human rights laws.

Cates frequently courts media attention for her offensive views on various ‘social’ issues.

She has previously written about ‘gender insanity’, the ‘cancellation of women‘, and about her support for ‘sex-based rights’, amongst many other things.

Cates has also attributed the UK’s declining birth rate to “cultural Marxism” and the increasing number of people attending university.

Speaking at the National Conservatism conference in the US, she claimed the falling birth rate posed a greater threat to British conservatism and Western society than climate change or the threats from Russia and China.
