This “death threat” comes to JK Rowling via largely unknown YouTuber “TrustFundOzu” and her hyperpop inspired diss track aimed at the transphobic author.
Taking to Twitter JK Rowling wrote: “I’m afraid I can’t give a shout out to everyone promising to murder me – there are so many of you, and I’m a busy woman – but this one deserves a mention for the nineties rave vibe, @TrustFundOzu”. I for one just wish she would post one that is a legitimate threat of violence and not like… some random child posting a bugs bunny meme.
It seems every time JK Rowling has claimed another threat of violence from the awful trans activists its been neither from a trans activist nor a credible threat of violence in any sense. This time is no different as its part of a diss track, a genre in which the entire point is to say mean things to music. With Faye Fadem being a YouTube creator who makes music and happens to be transgender.
I assume the lyrics JK Rowling takes umbrage with include; “If I cast my net past the butterflies what will that net be worth? If the best thing I can give my pussy is a new name, can I still give birth? Can I still search for the right hurt and the left brain as I kill TERFs”, “J.K. I hope you fit in a hearse Bitch I’m bigger than a whole cinematic universe Bitch”, and “Don’t gotta read your books to know you a problem Drinking your blood out the goblet”. Other lyrics in the song speak on not staying quiet in the face of transphobia, anti-trans violence and the fact that the balls are inert.
Both the diss track in question and JK Rowling’s tweets come after JK Rowling has now consistently been trending on Twitter due to various transphobia. Which has included supporting people involved in targeting a “100% desistance rate” for transgender youth, translation: conversion therapy. She has also promoted the ‘whistleblower’ Dr David Bell, a man who reportedly did not work with transgender youth in the service he claims to be ‘whistleblowing’ for.
As an activist and writer who has been very aware of how transphobes attempt to position themselves as the victim of any given event; I’ve often warned against doing things that could be so easily played off against us. When protestors turned up at JK Rowling’s house I went on record saying that’s a bad move and they should’ve chose someone like Baroness Nicholson instead. Not just for the historical recreation points but also because she’s an actual politician with power and you have a right to hold her to account. You don’t have that same right for JK Rowling. She’s just a writer whose work you may have enjoyed.
That being said, I’m starting to lose the will to care about it at this point. I get the argument that they’re going to try and pull this kind of crap either way and I don’t disagree, but still maintain we shouldn’t deliberately punch the bear trap. Even despite that the more they try to make mountains out of clear molehills and act like people are being uniquely mean to them, unlike any meanness anyone has ever seen or performed before! The more I find myself disinterested in maintaining that position.
