Known on Twitter for her endless ‘ratioing’ of anti-trans obsessives, Keffals is a Canadian Twitch streamer using her platform to help raise money and awareness for trans issues and people.
Sitting at almost 100,000 followers on Twitter – almost 40,000 of which were gained in the last 30 days – and closing in on 500,000 for Twitch; Keffals has recently been taking my social media feeds by storm. Not that I am complaining, as she brings with her a fun, punchy and sometimes even wholesome energy that probably explains her mass appeal amongst communities who are used to bad news.
Part of her success on Twitter has been down to a joke known as “ratioing”. Typically a ratio is when there are significantly more quote replies and replies on a person’s tweet than likes or retweets. This implies that a lot of people have a problem with what was said and are voicing their opinion. However you can also be the person to ratio someone else by responding to their tweet and having your tweet liked and retweeted more than their original tweet.
Keffals has ratioed multiple transphobic figures, apparently this started with a ratio against ‘Esther K’ (@estherk_k) who self ID’s as a broadcaster, writer & social commentator. Esther gave a transphobic take trying to imply that other people think like her and are transphobic too which Keffals responded to prove her wrong. The rest is history with everyone from Lauren Southern to JK Rowling receiving the ratio treatment.
Now Keffals has announced a charity stream that looks to be quite massive, with voices such as Chelsea Manning, Anthony Fantano and Lilly Wachowski named as special guests on the poster. The stream will be in aid of ‘Campaign For Southern Equality’ whose mission statement reads; “The Campaign for Southern Equality is working to build a South where LGBTQ people are equal in every part of life. A South where your zipcode doesn’t determine your rights. Where all of us are free to be who we truly are and love who we truly love.”
I reached out to Keffals to ask what she was hoping to achieve with the stream and I didn’t immediately get a response. So instead here’s a quote from a random tweet on her feed; “I am a grilled panini, eat my panussy”. Wise words from one of the trans communities wisest creators. I will update this if she has further comment.
The line-up for the event is set to have “many more” guests who will be revealed as events unfold. Starting 4:00pm EST April 29th and continuing on April 30th 2022 (Which is 8pm in GMT and 9pm in BST.) The fundraiser is ran through the Tiltify program used by creators such as JackSepticEye for his annual #Thankmas campaigns. Keffals has already reached $2,865.11 of her $10,000 goal at time of writing, before the stream has even started!
