Right-wing media ramp up anti-trans coverage

The Daily Mail, Times and Telegraph all produced lot of trans-focused content in their Saturday editions and most of it is horrible.
‘Cancelled’ Starkey unrepentant as he takes on trans lobby Daily Mail2 Sep 2022 UH- OH, Dr David Starkey is whipping up a storm again — and this time he’s taking on the notoriously prickly trans lobby. The television historian, who was ‘cancelled’ after making racist remarks in 2020, has now publicly questioned the right of transgender women to identify themselves as female. ‘One of the terrible problems of the age that we live in is the refusal to confront the truth,’ declares the Tudors expert. ‘The whole world of so much of the social media, the whole world of critical race theory, and the whole world of transsexuality is a gigantic lie.’ He explains: ‘It’s an act of faith — it’s preposterous the idea that a man can become a woman. ‘These are simple absurdities. ‘And large parts of the population — the young population, those who, one would hope, are more questing, are most disillusioned with fiction — swallow fiction.’ Speaking on LBC’s Iain Dale All Talk podcast, Dr Starkey (pictured) adds: ‘We don’t need a new Jesus Christ; we need a teller of blunt, cruel truth. Well, perhaps that was Jesus. If you read the Bible, the Bible was brutal.’ Dr Starkey, 76, apologised after his incendiary remarks about slavery. He was dropped by his long-standing publisher, HarperCollins, and his literary agency, Rogers Coleridge & White, as well as losing top academic posts after he claimed that slavery did not constitute genocide. Last year, however, he shocked diners in London’s Soho by saying he stood by his original offensive comments. ‘I don’t regret that statement,’ he said at the London Grill Club. ‘I regret how I said it, and the fact that I gave a handle to my enemies, which is a stupid thing to do. ‘I regret stupidity, I don’t regret a moral position.’

Another week, another series of articles talking nonsense about trans people in the Daily Mail, Daily Telegraph, and Times.

Media ignore desecration and destruction of trans memorial in Manchester

The horrendous news that the memorial to transgender people was urinated on by multiple people before being irreparable damaged was not covered by any of the national newspapers in the UK
British media would probably tell you this is a danger to everyone because of trans people but actually its just a stethoscope on a pile of forms meant to be a casual representation of healthcare.

Irresponsible British media reporting incites panic over youth gender clinic replacement

Following the interim Cass report; advice suggested closing Tavistock Gender Identity Clinic for transgender youth and replacing it with regional services. British media have chosen to report on this in the worst way possible and sought comment almost exclusively from anti-trans activists.

Labour Shadow Chancellor, Rachel Reeves has a problem with transgender women in changing rooms

So yeah, Rachel Reeves, if you have a problem with transgender women using the bathroom or changing areas? Then you can wait outside. As can any other transphobe. I am not asking for permission to use women's spaces, I am asserting my rights to not be discriminated against for being transgender.
An employee badge attached to a blue blazer. It shows the Halifax logo and reads "Gemma she/her/hers"

Halifax Pronoun Badges & The media’s disastrous attempt to manufacture outrage

So what happened is that a few people on the internet saw Halifax make an inclusive gesture - during pride month, when brands tend to do that sort of stuff - and got upset about it online. The media then got involved to amp up the story and try to make it into a moment by writing about and sharing it widely via their platforms. Which they did entirely for the clicks because they don't really care one way or another what happens with regards to trans inclusion - they literally just want you to visit their site and share it with your friends for the ad revenue.

Sajid Javid: “biological sex matters”, but does it?

Of course, sex matters - but is the view of sex that transphobes want to uphold as an avenue to do transphobia through worth protecting? No. Not in the slightest. Which is why even despite trans people being positioned as believing sex doesn't matter via their rhetoric, you will still find trans people on the front lines of so many of the causes we're told can only be fought for via a trans exclusionary, strict and rigid view of sex as a binary system.
Owen Jones speaking at Policy Exchange in 2013

Owen Jones faces harassment via transphobic Twitter mob

Owen Jones criticised the original piece for having not done journalistic due diligence of including comment from the school or those accused of allegedly having ousted this 18 year old from sixth-form for being transphobic, who I remind you are students at an all girls school and sixth-form. He asked for someone from that school to reach out with comment or statement. Not least due to the fact that The Times have had to issue multiple corrections for poor journalistic practice in the past, including on trans issues in particular.
