Tayla Smith, a transgender woman from Texas, narrowly escaped death when Kordel Stewart, a man she met on a dating app, attacked her during their first date.

Initially, Stewart seemed like a gentleman, and Smith had informed him about her gender identity before they met.

The encounter turned violent when Stewart, after kissing Smith, pinned her hands and slit her throat with a knife.

Smith fought back fiercely, sustaining injuries that required stitches.

She believes that her gender identity was not the motive behind the attack.

Stewart, who has a past charge of murder from 2020, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

He remains in custody at the Harris County Jail with a bond set at $125,000.
