Stella Creasy MP for Labour UK said that women can have penises. This is in line with the GRA 2004 which allows someone to change their sex without getting any surgery. She has been in receipt of transphobic backlash for that all weekend.

Stella Creasy, MP for Walthamstow, has been reported as saying trans women can have penises and that JK Rowling is wrong. What she actually did was describe the Gender Recognition Act 2004 – a piece of legislation our country’s politicians constantly say they are proud of for being so ahead of its time in 2004 – yet so few of them seem grasp what was so ahead of its time about that.

According to Stella Creasy and the GRA; you don’t need to get surgery in order to have your legal sex changed in the UK. This is all factually true and the result of the law working that way means that yes; some women have penises. You can disagree, you can say you think the law is bad, you can turn yourselves red with rage about it. But nonetheless, as it stands, the law in the UK states that some women have penises – and in a court of law you would not be able to simply ignore that.

The backlash to these comments has been everywhere. Multiple Tory MPs got involved to dish out misogynist crap, alongside their usual transphobic crap. One even allegedly having said Stella Creasy must have been drunk when she stated the laws of our country as they factually appear. Another criticised her using an escalator with a push-chair.

A Labour MP, Annaliese Dodds MP for Oxford East, got involved too. Giving an interview elsewhere where she said she disagreed with Stella Creasy about this. She said some guff about biology but its not like it matters; Stella Creasy simply stated the law.

Annaliese Dodds MP is not the first Labour MP to have engaged with anti-trans dogwhistles such as this, and likely won’t be the last. Wes Streeting MP also gave comment on this issue not too long ago. Labour has been marred with bigotry for a very long time and seems to refuse to do anything about it even going as far as attempting to cover it up, despite multiple desperate pleas from its own LGBT groups to deal with the issue.

JK Rowling was roped into the story as she spent yet another weekend (possibly drinking wine) and hanging out on Twitter reading and sharing articles from anti-trans propagandists. Stella Creasy apparently said that “JK Rowling doesn’t support self identification, whereas I do. Of course biological sex is real, its just not the end of the conversation”. Which again, is true, because that’s how the law works.

It’s all just a bit embarrassing, isn’t it? An MP literally just stated how the current laws in our country work and has been dogpiled, abused, harassed and sent misogynist and transphobic guff for her entire weekend. The people freaking out about what she said didn’t seem to care for the last 18 years of the GRA existing in exactly this manner, only now that transphobia is mainstream enough to be profitable are they kicking up a stink. Weird isn’t it?

Love and solidarity to Stella Creasy MP throughout this dogpile. The transphobic moral panic will eventually run out of fuel and die-down in part because of people like Stella Creasy. Currently it runs on the information gap left by a lot of people not really knowing any trans people, an information gap that is filled with propaganda and histrionic nonsense about us instead.

So it’s right for me to stand with my trans sisters and say: ‘Let’s fight these battles together’.” – Stella Creasy MP

Working to remove that information gap and connect people with trans people where they can see that we’re just like everyone else is a good thing in my opinion. Its a bigotry-based disarmament; their weapons rely on people not knowing any better and people can very easily know better! Thank you, Stella.
